  • GalNAc is an amino-functional derivative of galactose. Typically, it is the starting O-linking sugar for many threonine and serine residues in protein glycosylations. One important function of GalNAc in organisms is it´s role in intercellular communication. Recently, GalNAc has also been used as targeting moiety to bind to the asialoglycoprotein receptors on hepatocytes.
